BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students; provide safe and efficient transportation for District students to and from school, special events and field trips; perform daily inspections and maintenance of vehicle; maintain records related to student transportation and vehicle inspection.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation in California following specified schedules; transport students to and from school, special events and field trips. EPick up and discharge students at established bus stops; stop traffic and escort students across streets and roadways as needed to assure student safety; report incidents which affect the safety of students. EMaintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections and driver maintenance including cleaning windows, mirrors and bus interior; check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; check brakes, brake lights and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel. EMaintain order and discipline among students on bus following District policies and procedures regarding disciplining of students and contact with school officials, parents and the public; interact with parents regarding questions, concerns and disputes. EInspect and maintain oil, water and fuel levels; clean exterior and interior of buses including picking up debris, sweeping and mopping floor, wiping upholstery and cleaning headlights; change tires and assist mechanics in minor vehicle maintenance as assigned. EMaintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven and number of children transported and other related matters; prepare student conduct, incident and accident reports. EUtilize two-way radio for bus to bus and bus to base communication. EPerform first aid according to established guidelines and procedures. EPick up parts and supplies for the Transportation Department or District as assigned.Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:KNOWLEDGE OF:Proper operation of large school buses.Safe and defensive driving practices.Provisions of the California State Motor Vehicle code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students.First Aid practices and procedures.Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Basic record-keeping techniques. ABILITY TO:Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students.Conduct safety inspections and perform routine preventive maintenance.Maintain order and discipline among students according to District policies.Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.Recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Learn designated bus routes including stops and traffic hazards.Operate cleaning equipment and supplies, two-way radio and a variety of power and hand tools used in minor adjustments and maintenance.Maintain routine records.Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Meet schedules and time lines. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Learn, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Administer first aid to ill or injured passengers.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledges and abilities listed above. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a valid and appropriate California School Bus Driver Certificate, a Class B driver's License, valid Medical and First Aid Certificates. TRAINING:The District shall pay or reimburse employees for the following expenses provided they are approved in advance in writing by the Personnel Department:The tuition, material fees, and classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction hours (maximum of 40 hours for initial certificate and 10 hours for license renewal) required by law to obtain or renew a California School Bus Driver's Certificate.The initial license fee to obtain or renew a California School Bus Driver's Certificate.The cost of the physical examinations required by law for School Bus Drivers in an amount not to exceed the amount charged by the District's physician.Probationary employees who are paid or reimbursed pursuant to Item 1 above and who receive a California Bus Driver's Certificate must remain employed by the District for one year of permanent employment.Employees who are terminated or resign prior to completion of the full permanent year of employment with the District shall repay the employer for all reimbursed training and licensing costs upon termination. Such costs shall be deducted from the employee's final pay warrant.WORKING CONDITIONS:ENVIRONMENT:Indoor and outdoor environment; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work.PHYSICAL ABILITIES:Sitting for extended periods of time, standing, climbing into bus, bending, pushing and pulling, reaching to pulling levers and close bus doors, and lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds.HAZARDS:Exposure to driving a school bus during adverse weather and traffic conditions, and exposure to abusive, rude or uncooperative individuals.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
